I'm currently waiting on my July GlossyBox in the post, which will be late because of a mysterious problem with payment, and then I'll be writing about that, and I'm gonna be working on some game related posts as well. I'm hoping that writing will get me out of my funk.

You might remember me talking about one of my favourite bands, King Lizard, and how awesome they are. They are running a competition right now for some signed goodies and free tickets and things. Basically, the more people click my link, the better chance of me winning. I have long had the status of King Lizard's number one fan, and I want to cement my title.

Just a click and you're done. No extra clicks though, it won't help.

I have been ever so busy over the last couple of weeks. My birthday week was non-stop, one event after another, and like an idiot I've lost the charger for the camera and only took pictures on two days.

First off, due to mutual boredom Kayleigh and I got together on the Saturday preceding my birthday and started messing around with looks. It's always great when she gets to try out the things I've been writing about, I like to see if she agrees with my opinion and she can make sure she likes something before she buys it for herself.

Anyway, I did a pretty awesome purple cut crease using a mixture of MUA's shade 9 eyeshadow and SugarPill's Poison Plum for the purple, and then I covered it in purple glitter from those Collection 2000 glitter and gel duo things. It didn't seem like enough, so I added black glitter to the crease (my black glitter is by Lanmei, bought from eBay) and some holographic glitter to the brow bone (Collection 2000 again).

Then we got to talking about Kayleigh's skin. She suffers from dry skin in places, and in others she gets a lot of spots. There are a number of reasons why these spots can show up but they cause a personal hell; trying to cover them up is difficult and often makes them worse, and even if you conceal the colour, you can't conceal the change they make to the surface of your skin. The little bumps create highlights and shadows on your face and the ones that have burst one way or another (it doesn't always happen through picking, spots can be itchy and absent minded scratching can cause them to burst) get little scabs on them or the skin around them dries up, which collects foundation or concealer in a way that makes it look pretty bad. There are things that can be done to trick the eye so you don't see most spots, and particularly for photographs, there are ways to make them invisible.

We decided to give it a go, with before and after shots. Here they are:

It looks like a flash has been used, because the make up is reflecting the light away from the blemishes, making her look brighter.

I started by introducing Kay to the Soap & Glory Fab Pore hot cloth cleanser to help reduce the occurrence of spots (after a while of regular use). She then met the Simply Pure Light Moisturiser from Superdrug, which she later told me she rushed out to buy the whole range soon after (as well as the Fab Pore!)

Kayleigh already uses, and raves about, the e.l.f. Mineral Infused Face Primer, because it smooths over her dry patches and helps smooth the surface over her spots, helping her foundation and concealer to better do their job.

Using a thicker, water based foundation with a high coverage helps to cover without clogging her skin full of more oils, like an oil based foundation would. Make sure your concealer is also a water based concealer, otherwise it won't blend. I find stick concealers to be terrible, and usually quite greasy, so avoid them. Using a brush, apply a liquid concealer like e.l.f's tone correcting concealer, and then set it with a mineral concealer. Again, I use e.l.f.

Using blusher and bronzer to contour and add a little colour will break up the flat colour of your foundation and help to disguise any flaws along the surface of your skin.

Finally, use a good powder, preferably a High Definition powder like the one from Urban Decay, used here, or e.l.f do a £6 one. These are very finely milled and help to reflect light away from the skin, blurring the edges of any blemishes.

It all sounds like mumbo jumbo, doesn't it? Well in truth, the human eye can often pick up the signs of a covered up spot, especially if they are looking for them. Most people, however, aren't looking; and your skin will always look a lot better than it did.

Now, a collage.

Fast forward to the next Saturday, and we're together again getting ready for a night out at a goth gig. It all ended up going horribly wrong, and we improvised, ended up going to Slimelight, and actually ended up having a really good time, but before all that we were getting dolled up, and because we were horribly late, Kay did her own make up (sans contouring, as she's new to it and hasn't quite got the hang of it yet).

Kayleigh went for a black angular shape on the eyelid, covered it in black glitter (Lanmei again) and added red glitter (Fierce by GlamourDollEyes.com) above the crease and along the lash line.
This was paired with a red lip stain by Maybelline.
I ran some mousse through her hair and blow dried it upwards for a spiky bedhead look without the need to back-comb.

Here's her result:

I went for a blue eye to match my corset, mixing a lot of pigment samples from GlamourDollEyes starting with Melancholy on the center of the lids, working outwards into the sparkly Blueberry Lush, up into Tattooed in the crease and Mingles on the brow bone. I had to add some glitter, so I used Techno, Casino and a little bit of Rave.

Here's the two of us all dressed up and ready to go!

Unfortunately I didn't take any proper close ups until I got home at 6 or 7am, and my make up had creased quite a bit, but considering how hot and sweaty I got dancing the night away, I think it did alright! I loved my star tattoo transfers!

It's my birthday on Tuesday :-)

Over the next week I'm going to be really busy with outings and getting my house ready for people coming to visit, and I'll be getting myself ready too!

I went out for Kayleigh's birthday last weekend, and left half my brushes and make up at a friend's house, including some pigment samples from Glamour Doll Eyes that I wanted to show you, but hopefully I'll be getting them back before my birthday!

When you're preparing for a big night out like a birthday or any special occasion, (or any time you're going out and you know someone special is going to be there ;-p ) you want to look your very best, free of blemishes and uneven skin, perfect hair and stunning make up. This is my plan for skincare up to the day (bare in mind I have less than a week and no money to buy new things or pay for treatments).

I hate my upper arms and my shoulders. I always try to have them covered. Not just because of my size and my bingo wings; my skin is uneven with redness and stretchmarks, and most annoyingly I get these little bumps full of sebum (that firm-ish white substance inside blackheads) all over my shoulders and down my forearms.

To combat this I plan to use a body scrub like Soap & Glory's Flake Away or Gok Wan's Gorgeous body scrub (because that's what's in my bathroom) on a daily basis, probably interchanging because Flake Away is some serious stuff and I'll be red raw if I use it every day, even for a short time. Scrubs are not meant for daily use unless otherwise stated on the packaging, but this is for an intensive short course to get my skin up to scratch for the day and I have been neglecting my skin for the past couple of weeks, being away and concentrating on spring cleaning.

I'm going to extend my face care routine down onto my chest. Bigger busted ladies amongst you will know that with great boobs come great responsibilities. Wearing heavy duty bras and even not wearing bras can often make you hot and sweaty, and the rubbing of bras on the skin will lead to blocked pores and blemishes whilst the nature of that area of skin doesn't lend itself well to body scrubs because they are too chunky, gritty, and rough, and I don't want to damage the skin.

Speaking of my face care, I'll be using my Soap & Glory Fab Pore cleanser every day, my Body Shop face brush every other day, and my Lush Herbalism cleanser in a number of different ways throughout.
Sometimes I mix Herbalism just with water for a normal cleanse, as it is meant to be used. Sometimes I add it to a creamy cleanser to make it feel more luxurious. This week I'm going to be experimenting with it as a base for a mask by mixing it with egg or yoghurt or honey to help it stick, because it helps remove redness and I want to use it as much as I can for that quality.
I'll be moisturising, using my GinZing on my eyes and a light moisturiser on my face, and steering clear of make up when I don't have to use it.

My friend has just passed her course and become a qualified hairdresser (yesterday!) so I'll be heading down to Kingston College on Monday morning to get my hair re-coloured and neatened up. I'll probably get a conditioning treatment done whilst I'm at it. Going to a hairdressing school to get your hair done is always a lot cheaper, and they use quality products. If you don't know anyone in training and you don't trust an unknown student to do anything complex, get it styled by someone you trust and just go in to a training salon for touch-ups later on. I'm quite lucky to have known Kitten for a long time, and I know she's good and I can trust her to do what she wants knowing that I'll like the results.
(Congratulations on passing your course Kat, I wish you the best love x.)

I had a Garra Rufa fish pedicure the other week when I was in Dundee, it was pretty awesome. They trimmed my cuticles! My feet were left a lot softer and smoother, but I've been out in heels since then and I'll be needing a touch up. Sadly I don't think I can afford another fish treatment, but I do still have some Lush Stepping Stone left, and that's where the hubby-to-be comes in. I'll be wrangling him into giving me a foot bath and rubbing some Stepping Stone all over them. Nice.

My hands will come last. Doing so much housework is not making it easy to make them beautiful, so I'll just put my L'Occitane Shea butter hand cream on them daily, and give myself a manicure the day before I start to celebrate, to save my nail polish chipping.

Will it all work? We'll have to wait and see.

1st Prize goes to Kayleigh
2nd Prize goes to SuperHotFemale

I'd like to add a disclaimer here:
Anyone who reads this blog has probably figured out that Kayleigh is my super bestest friend, however I won't stop her or anyone I know from entering my giveaways, and if Random.org picks her I won't disqualify her for being my friend, the same as I won't disqualify someone who has already won, even if it seems unfair or favouritism, it would be unfair to do it any other way. I don't pick the winners, Random.org does.

So well done Kayleigh and SuperHotFemale!
I'll contact you both shortly.

Not forever! I'm going to Dundee for a week and since my great aunt does not have the internet, and I won't have all my make up with me, I won't be posting during the week. I get back next Tuesday and I thought, "a week? That's long enough to have a competition!"

How To Enter

I'm changing things up this time. As always you have to be subscribed to the blog and comment on this post telling me you want to enter.

Taking a leaf from other blog giveaways I've seen, you can earn more entries by doing things to publicise the blog. It's kind of like buying one ticket for a raffle vs buying a sheet of tickets. Or something. Actually it's closer to roulette, you can bet on any single number from 0 to 36 or you could bet on every number from 1 to 12. That's a better analogy.

Ok, so...

An extra entry if you follow me on Twitter and tweet "@HellThirteen enter me"

Another if you tweet about the competition and include a link

One more if you "like" Joysticks and Lipstick on Facebook

And finally, I will give an extra two entries for every blog/social network/forum that you use to link to this page and talk about my blog or this competition. Please comment here with a link (and if it's in a side bar or something, let me know the location) because if I didn't see it, it didn't happen ;-)

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING TO BE ENTERED OTHER THAN SUBSCRIBE AND COMMENT "enter me."

Doing these things will improve your chances but, knowing that not everyone is connected to Twitter or BBs or social networking sites, it is not compulsory.

I'm gonna give you a week and a half to enter (I know I get back on Tuesday but it's an 11 hour coach ride, I'm not doing anything when I get home!) so it will close on FRIDAY 10th JUNE 2011.

Sorry guys, I would put up photos of the prizes, but my coach leaves in 2 hours and I need to get ready!

See you all in a week!

Lastly, the beautiful Sarah May aka Purplepain, author of The inept's guide to first-time gardening. She, like me, is responsible for a garden for the first time, and is documenting her attempt to turn it into something wonderful.

I moved to a new house a year and a half ago and have a garden after 24 years of a tiny balcony filled with mum's pot plants. Now I'm having to teach myself how to make my garden beautiful without my mum to guide me (though the library she left me does have books on most subject matter, including gardening) and it's great to read Sarah May's posts and know I'm not alone. Starting a garden can be a daunting task, (like re-decorating a room only you have to grow the paint!) and she has some great ideas mixed in with hints and tips.

Thank you again to The OPI Junkie for the award. I am humbled at being made to feel so welcome in the blogging community.

I've been using the L'Oreal face wash with the scrubby rubber pad lately... well actually I've been using the pad mostly, I don't like the smell of the L'Oreal wash. It's the blue one for normal to oily skins.

More often, I was using the rubber brush thing with my Lush Herbalism cleanser. I've messed about with Herbalism, mixing it with gel wash instead of water, and once mixing it with a cleansing milk (totally recommend mixing it with a milk, you get a really creamy, thick consistency that feels quite luxurious.)

My skin has become more problematic over the years. The teenage spots are gone, replaced by adult spots. I get large pores on my nose and the surrounding area, with blocked pores across my T-zone, little blackheads abundant, (those pore strips don't always catch them either,) random dry patches, uneven skin tone, dark circles, and most annoying recently (as I can cover everything else with make up) I've had a lumpy forehead.

These aren't spots or lumps of dry skin, they're almost like tiny blisters that can't be popped.

I've also been having to really work to get my make up off lately, because of the stay-put nature of the make up I've been wearing.

I'd been hearing a lot about Hot Cloth Cleansers that utilise a muslin cloth to gently exfoliate the skin, dampened with hot water to soften the pores. I'm fairly sure you can just use any cleansing milk or cream and buy some muslin cloths from The Body Shop or Boots (surprisingly Liz Earle offers the cheapest muslin cloths), but I wanted to try one that was purpose made and came with a cloth. Liz Earle is the most raved about and costs £13.25 for 100ml, and Boots do a No.7 one that is 200ml for £9.00, Sanctuary Spa offer 125ml for £10.25, and Soap and Glory have The Fab Pore, 100ml for £9.19.

I looked for reviews on all of them and whilst the No.7 cleanser seems the best value for money, I heard negative comments on the smell, and that it was better for dryer skins, and that it was not made with natural ingredients the way the Liz Earle one was. I couldn't actually find a list of ingredients online which put me off even more.

I looked around on YouTube and suchlike for reviews of all the products, but I could only find a couple that even mentioned the S&G or Sanctuary cleansers. I took this as a sign, these cleansers need a voice. Only able to test one for the moment due to money and giving each one a fair go, I picked S&G because I like the brand and other products I have of theirs (including the never-in-stock Sugar Crush which smells like mojitos!) and it was the cheaper of the two.

Here's the ingredients list:
Linalool , Synthetic Beeswax, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Esters, Sorbitan Stearate, Polysorbate 60, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Aqua (Water), Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Oil, Caprylyl Glycol, Methylparaben, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Leaf Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Salvia Sclarea (Clary) Oil, Panthenol, Disodium EDTA

I like that they use Synthetic Beeswax instead of the real thing, which is vegan friendly (Liz Earle uses real Beeswax and therefore is NOT vegan friendly.) I like vegan friendly products. Even though I'm not vegan or even vegetarian, I have friends who are, my brother was vegan for a long time, and I want to be able to recommend a product that is ok for everyone to use. Unfortunately I don't know that much about vegan do's and don't's, only what I hear here and there, so #I can't be sure if this is vegan, but I think it is.
What I DO NOT like in these ingredients is Methylparaben, which is a carcinogen (poison) and I don't see the need for it.

Sweet Almond Oil is used as a carrier oil in aromatherapy and massage, it's good for the complexion and for soothing irritation. It's full of vitamins that are great for the skin and is easily absorbed.

Lavender Oil is often used for calming and de-stressing as well as in treatment of headaches, but it is also good for cleaning, and has antiseptic properties.

Bitter Orange Leaf Oil is used for acne and works well with Lavender Oil.

Clary Sage is used for complexion.

The interesting thing about these oils is that they are all used as de-stressers or anti-depressants that create a sense of well-being and in the case of Clary Sage, euphoria. ~No wonder I've been sniffing the cloth like it's full of crack, then.

I have noticed that I have a really good feeling after using it, and it does smell amazing.

Application:

Start with a dry face. You don't need to remove make up beforehand. Run some hot water (as hot as you can stand, you can add some cold if you need) in the sink and stick the plug in. Take the tube and squeeze some of the cleanser onto your fingers and massage it into your face, avoiding your eyes until the last possible moment. Only use it on your eyes if you have eye make up that needs to be removed and be warned, it doesn't do well with eyelash glue. It kind of melts and sticks to your face in a smudge and gets really hard to remove so make sure you get it off before you start. Keep your eyes shut tight and don't let it get in your eyes. Essential oils will irritate the eyes and if you have problems with the oils irritating your skin (as they can with certain skins) S&G recommend you switch to Clean Mary cleansing milk instead. However, this has been discontinued so there aren't many places you can get it. I've given you a link to buy from ASOS.

Massage it in for at least a minute, and then leave it on to work into the skin for another minute. You could drop a Lush Toner Tab into the sink and steam your face whilst you're letting it soak in, the heat will soften the pores and help the ingredients into the skin. Drop the cloth into the water so it can soak and warm while you're waiting. The oils will start to tingle a little bit.

When you're ready, take the cloth out of the sink, give it a squeeze so that it isn't dripping and, starting with the eyes if you applied cleanser there, start wiping it off in small circular motions, rinsing off the cloth regularly. Once it's all off, splash your skin with cold water to tighten the pores, rinse and hang up the cloth (do not leave it sitting crumpled in a ball, bacteria grows in the damp spots and it'll go all crusty) and if you can, let your face air dry. Towels will be a bit rough for your skin and they have bits of lint and fluff and dust in the fibres, so if you have to, use kitchen towel.

Remember that there are oils in your cleanser and your make up, and there will be tide marks in your sink; so give the sink a clean when you're finished, especially if you live in a shared house or with your parents. Save yourself the "What the hell have you been doing in my sink?!" argument!

I've been using it like this every day, and instead of using a scrub, I've been using the Body Shop facial brush to buff it into my skin instead of massaging it in with my fingers. Of course you can't do this every day, probably only once or twice a week depending on the state of your skin. The brush is really soft but it is still an exfoliating device and over usage will damage your skin.

After Using:

My face feels soft and smooth, I feel happy and refreshed, my pores are clear and more refined, any spots or scabs from spots that wouldn't go away are gone, redness is reduced, I have no need for concealer anywhere but my dark circles, and even the lumps on my forehead are gone! I feel so strange stroking my forehead and finding it smooth :-)

I didn't use it yesterday (well, I used it at 5am when I got back from Voodoo, but I've slept twice since then) and the little lumps have reappeared. I don't know if this means they are something I'll always have to battle or if it'll just take more time to get them gone for good.

My Verdict:

S&G The Fab Pore is a fantastic cleanser, and if they could just get rid of that methylparaben it would be even better. It isn't eye safe, even though you can use it to take off your eye make up you need to keep it out of your eyes. It's a bad point, but if you changed it you'd have to take out all the essential oils which work so well on the skin. The muslin cloth seems good quality, I've heard complaints about the No.7 cloth being poor quality. I give it a four and a half out of your mother.

I will try out Liz Earle when I get a chance so I know what The Fab Pore is up against, and give you a comparison when I do.

Hope you found this helpful if you're looking at cleansers.

Hey guys :-)

Having spoken about the Urban Bride box from Urban Decay in my last post, I thought: "These products need to be put to the test."

So I went to Voodoo last night with an awesome, yet difficult to maintain, crease-cut eye look; I must say it was inspired by a two year old look by Tina Marie, and having not ever attempted crease cutting before I'm not ashamed to say she does it a lot better than me, my skin kept wrinkling up under my liner and messing up my lines, and I can't draw a straight line to save my life!

I used highly pigmented colours on my eyes (Sugarpill, for the most part) with a mix of pen and gel liner, over the top of Urban Decay Eden Primer Potion.

For my face, I used e.l.f. Mineral Infused Face Primer, with my usual Infallible foundation from L'Oreal. I contoured and blushed lightly, applied the Urban Decay HD powder and spritzed with the UD All Nighter setting spray.

Then I went out, drank, smoked, hugged people, smooched with my fiance, and danced like a maniac. The club was really hot, and the only air conditioning was on the dancefloor. I was sweating so hard after one dance session (White Zombie: More Human Than Human, Nine Inch Nails: The Hand That Feeds, 36 Crazyfists: Slit Wrist Theory, Buckcherry: Crazy B!tch; I mean really, how can you not go mental when you've got tracks like that back to back?) that the sweat was literally running down my face.

Terrible conditions for your make up, and all I had brought for touch ups was lipgloss.

So I traipsed in around 4:30/5am and walked straight in to my bedroom to take some photos so I could get on with washing my face (I couldn't wait to take my lashes off.)

Here's what I looked like:
What better way to test, thought I, than to do a bridal make up?

Prime
The bride box doesn't come with a face primer, and it seems UD don't sell their Box Of Potions in these parts, so not having the UD Complexion Primer Potion I substituted for the e.l.f. Mineral Infused Primer (£6) and smoothed it all over my face and neck.

I would have used the original Primer Potion from the box, but the lovely and very beautiful lady who writes Frooti Beauty gave me a sample sized pot of one of the new coloured Primer Potions, I think the shade was Eden, and I already know what the original one looks like so I used the Eden instead. It's a lot thicker and stickier and dries faster so you have to work a bit quicker than with the original, but it evens out skintone and brightens whilst giving nice coverage of dark circles.

After using the UD Primer Potion in Eden I didn't feel the need for concealer; my under eye circles were pretty well covered (this may have been due to my use of Origins GinZing over the past few days as well) and my skin is actually blemish free right now, enough so anyway that foundation was enough to cover any I might have.

Cheeks

Taking e.l.f. Cool Bronzer on a stippling brush I lightly brushed a little on under my cheekbones and around the edge of my face, and used a little to contour my nose.

Using my Cynthia Rowley for Avon True Colour Blush in Peony Pink and the e.l.f. studio blush brush I applied the colour to the very edge of my cheekbones and up the sides of my face. I wanted to avoid putting too much colour on my cheeks and put more emphasis on the cheekbones, whilst using a very pink flowery colour to add an air of innocence to the look and honour the term "the blushing bride."

I took my Collection 2000 blush in So Pretty and using the same brush added the shimmering peach shade along the line of my cheekbones, blending it with the Peony Pink and pulling the colour down onto my cheeks. The colour is very sheer and just adds a hint of glow. I took what was left on the brush over my forehead, nose and chin to keep the rest of my face from looking flat.

The last thing on my cheeks was a little Eyeko Sparkle Powder (discontinued) and ran it over my cheekbones and temples for a highlight.
Angled Contour Brush for a wide band of colour, and blended the two colours together. I used a darker cool brown from my Sunkissed palette to define the outer 'V' and blended some more.

I blended again.

I curled my lashes and gave them a generous coat of UD Supercurl Curling Mascara. It's a nice mascara that doesn't harden too much, making it comfortable, but I don't see that much of a curl even using curlers, and it doesn't volumize or lengthen so it made me want to add some falsies. I didn't though.
As a bride to be myself, there is no way in hell I'm going to be touching up my eyeliner on the day, and after a while my eyes get irritated by the feel of a liner on my waterline.
Using UD Razor Sharp Ultra Definition Finishing Powder I patted the powder on my face and used a powder brush to sweep away the excess. It's really nice to have a loose powder that is easy to carry and apply on the go, with a little mirror on the lid!

Just to give you a peek into the future, I have some more reviews coming. I have a GINORMOUS e.l.f. haul/review to do (probably why it's taken so long to get round to) including the new Complete Coverage Concealer in "light".
I got a gift bag from Origins including the GinZing I've been hearing Jim Chapman rave about (brother to the Pixiwoo girls), duo lipgloss and mascara.
I got a few things from Lush, too, and have been testing them so I can tell you about them.

I also won a prize!

Eyeko have been running a competition for best beauty tricks and one of my tricks came second, so as soon as said prize arrives I will review whatever comes in it. In the high likelihood that I already own everything they send me I will probably run my own competition and send it on, but we shall see. I think I need some more subscribers before I do another giveaway. Shall we say, 50? I'll have to think about it...

Speak to you soon,

I thought I'd put together a tutorial on the emo look. I've split it into two videos, one for hair and one for make up, they're about 10 mins each and I had to edit the crap out of them to get them down to that time!

They're up on my channel but if you want to watch them here:

There's a place fairly near me called Forevermore Tattoo, who do 13-design tattoos on Friday 13th for £13. So me and my bestie Kay went and got one last Friday.

I've been to Forevermore before, for my neck/back piece (comprising of Nightmare Before Christmas and Trapdoor imagery) and I loved the work done.

So now I have a Sailor Jerry style 13 under my first tattoo, a heartagram on my chest. I plan to add some embellishment at a later date, in order to join them together into one tattoo.

Wanna see some pics? Of course you do.
You only get a few in a pack, and if you're like me, you have a lot more than a few brushes. Having said that, they are ingenious in design and they are really good for drying and storing your brushes.

I bought a single variety pack a few months back on ebay. I managed a decent price for it, so far as I can remember. I decided to get some more, instead going for the extra small pack of 10, the blush sized pack of 8, the foundation sized pack of 5 and the kabuki sized pack of 4, making 27 in all and hopefully enough to cover all my brushes.

Unfortunately I couldn't find a cheap price on ebay, they were all going for £5.50, and when I searched for online retailers they all cost £5.50 each, with different prices on shipping. Those four packs were going to cost me £22, and shipping could have been anything from £1 to £4 on ebay, depending on if they gave me a discount for multiple items.

Here's the thing: in the USA The Brush Guard retails at $5.50, and international shipping from thebrushguard.com costs $3.00, making a total of $25.00 for the transaction. Granted, it's slow post from America which could take up to two weeks, but when translated into GBP it cost me only £15.58, plus £1 as an exchange fee for using foreign currency. I actually saved £10 by getting it shipped in from the source.

Keep it in mind whenever you buy online, and especially if you're buying the brush guard.
B4
I'm going to put posts like this under the tag B4, I don't know if it will be a regular thing but for the moment I will add posts when I find something worth posting about.

I have... 3 things to talk about today. One is a tip on getting make up for less, the others are things you can buy.

The first couple of things I'm gonna talk about are from W7, a company I've never been interested in, you can buy it in pound shops... they do some amazing neon eyeliners, but I haven't tried them because they go on your eyes and they come from a pound shop. I'm too scared.

That said, I was in Savers just before my big night out, and I saw they had some crackle nail polishes priced at £1.99. They only came in black, white and silver, the range was called Earthquake. For your £1.99 you get a decent amount of product, 15ml as you do with premium brands like OPI, not surprising as the bottle is a dupe for OPI polishes. I really like the crackle effect and it does a good job with wide cracks forming almost instantly. The white is a little watery so one coat doesn't give proper coverage of the colour underneath, the silver is very gritty and thick like cement mix, and I think the black is my favourite because it goes with everything, it's thick but not too thick, and it works really well.

Every knockoff or cheap make up company is now selling their blushers and bronzers in these little square cardboard boxes to make it look like Benefit, W7 are doing it, Primark and Peacocks have their own makeup brands and I know for sure Peacocks are doing it, I think I saw them in Primark and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Claire's had their own too.

Here's the thing - on the outside the product is copying Benefit, on the inside it's copying Too Faced's Pink Leopard bronzer... the pattern isn't even similar, it's almost an exact copy of the leopard print in the picture of it here.

Anyway, it's a very light pinkish bronzer with a really pretty shimmer.

Tip:

When I was out the other day I was walking around Superdrug and I came across their clearance shelf. They had a blush that was damaged, down from £2.99 to 99p, so I bought it. It was from Beauty UK, not a massive gem, but I took it home and set to work bashing it to a fine powder (it smelt far too much like talc and I was a bit grossed out, but this is about the process, not the product) and I mixed in some toner (I had no pure alcohol so I substituted) and then I set about sculpting it back into its original dome shape like icing on a muffin. I placed a cotton pad on top to help it stay clean while it dried and help it not to crack, and the next day I painstakingly neatened it with a q-tip dipped in make up remover. I placed a bottle of nail polish remover on top as a weight to help squeeze out any moisture. I waited another day (though I probably didn't have to) and then I took a tube of superglue and put the clear plastic dome back in the top of the container.

It took a bit of work but in the end I had paid 30% of the price for something broken and messy and useless and made it as good as new. Always keep your eyes peeled. Sometimes broken things can be decanted into other bottles or they can be fixed. A lot of make up artists decant their products to make them easier to travel with, even lipsticks get mashed up and put into palettes.

The first two were amazing and I really didn't have the same problems with the sequel as I did with Dragon Age 2. It still took time to complete and while it's true that many places were copied there was still a lot of content to get through, the story was awesome and what you did in the first game had a real effect on what happened in the second.

In case you are wondering why I compare Mass Effect, a sci-fi game, with Dragon Age which is a fantasy game, it's because both games are made by BioWare and both are RPGs.

News has just been released that Mass Effect 3 will not be released until the first quarter of 2012, between three and six months later than the original release date given of November 2011. Nobody wants to wait, especially with great games so sparse on the ground this year. The time it takes to complete a game appears to be decreasing, and we gamers are being left for longer and longer periods of time with nothing decent to play that we haven't already clocked. On the upside, hopefully this means that ME3 will be an even better game than it would have been if it were released in November.

It is easy to forget with the excitement over games like Skyrim, DAII, ME3 and Portal 2, that there are a whole bunch more games that look awesome on their way this year. Personally I'm really looking forward to Uncharted 3 and Batman Arkham City. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean is out on May 13th and I love the Lego games and the Pirates of the Caribbean films (not so much the games) so it looks to be a good one. I never played American McGee's Alice the first time round, but it seems like the kind of game that would be right up my street. Unfortunately the original game is both rare and expensive. However, with an ETA of June, Alice: Madness Returns looks to be a decent sequel and it comes with a copy of the original, and I'm assuming they've reworked it for the PS3 to go with the sequel. PC gaming isn't really my thing, aside from anything I don't have a working mouse.

One game that I'm really not sure about is Shadows Of The Damned. It could be amazing or awful, and I really don't think I'll know until I've played it. I could make a pretty safe assumption that it will be the same format as every other Japanese horror game, because playing through Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, Project Zero (Fatal Frame to any non-Brits), Dante's Inferno, and I'm sure there are others, they all have the same menu and sound effects within the menu, even the same font. Project Zero is the game that stands apart because it is the only one of these which is truly scary, and the gameplay is very different in that the speed is slower, you can enter a 1st person view, and there is far less music involved. This doesn't necessarily make the game bad, you just have to look at the more subtle differences, like plot ;-) I could always be wrong, and the game sounds cool regardless.

Anyway, that thar be my stuff to look forward to this year. It only really comes to about six. DA2 is already out and I've already finished, ME3 is moved to next year along with Bioshock Infinite. I have plans to get Portal 2 as soon as I can find it in stock, and in the meantime I am finally playing Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. Yes, I know, I'm really late. I just missed the bandwagon with that. I was all over the first 2 games, and I think I thought of it as more of an online multiplayer add-on than a continuation of the storyline.
I must say I've been watching The Borgias of late (the tv series with Jeremy Irons as the Rodrigo Borgia) and it adds a whole new depth to the story, so many of the characters are the same. It makes me want to replay Assassin's Creed 2 but I think I traded it in when my PS3 died.

So, I will be off now. Many things to do!

Do you love the idea of the peel-off face mask, but find that it never delivers, because they are so difficult to peel off? I think I've found the answer.

Take some kitchen towel and tear it into strips. When you apply the mask (best done with a brush - you can get special mask brushes or use your least favourite foundation brush. I used the £1.50 e.l.f. brush) just place a strip of paper right on top and press it into place. The sticky mask will hold it on, while you just carry on with this papier mache method (remember doing it with balloons, tissue and glue when you were at school) avoiding the eyes and mouth, and leaving nostril holes.

Be warned, if your boyfriend/brother/father thought you looked scary in a normal face mask, he will throw a fit, like mine just did.

(Please note, your version can be a lot neater than mine. Once I got it into my head that Dave would get a shock I made it look worse than it needed to!)

Once the mask is dry, you will find it a lot easier to peel off, and because you aren't stretching it to get it off, it should be able to hold on to a lot more of the impurities. It kind of turns into a pore strip for your face.

The reason why those peel-off masks don't work is the same reason why Michelle Phan's home made pore strips don't work for most people. The pore strips you buy in the shop ALWAYS have that material component. It's a lot like waxing your face (DO NOT USE WAX TO TRY TO REMOVE BLACKHEADS! It will take all the tiny hairs off your face and you need them! I'm sure you do, otherwise why would you have them?) in that you have something sticky to grab hold of the hairs or the top of your blackheads or any dead skin cells, and it needs to set and harden to get a really good grip, but all sticky things want to stay stuck, and in removing the sticky stuff from the skin using fingernails or water and soap, it will loose its grip on the hair or blackheads too.

*Science gibberish for the next two paragraphs*

Glues and other sticky things work a lot like chemical reactions and compounds. Two elements react together to form a compound, like hydrogen and oxygen become water. You might remember this experiment being done in science class, but it does explain my point quite well. If you take water and add a certain type of metal, I can't remember the rule for it, but I believe it was more reactive than one of the elements in the compound i.e. more reactive than hydrogen, (francium was one of the highest on the chart - dangerous) and you put the metal in the water it would react, in some cases violently, as the hydrogen and oxygen split and the oxygen bonded with the metal, making an oxide salt.

Sticky stuff is the same in a way, it likes porous things rather than reactive things. If, whilst wet, it bonds to two materials, when those two materials are separated, the sticky stuff will stay with the most porous of the two materials. Kitchen towel is more porous than your skin.

I hope that helped some of you!

I must apologise for being absent all week, I have been extremely busy with spring cleaning and preparing for my night at Decadence, and my poor darling Dave has been off work with an injured shoulder so I have been tending to him.

I have a bunch of stuff to review, and that will be going up this week; including some wonderful budget beauty buys (jumping on the crackle polish bandwagon for £1.99) and a lipstick that just Will. Not. Budge.

For tonight, I will leave you with this announcement:

Due to my own lack of activity over the last week, and because I haven't been publicising it as I should, I am extending the Sigma E25 blending brush competition for ONE MORE WEEK!

Get your entries in by Sunday!

I've had a week to test it out, and I give it a full thumbs up. I wasn't sure how I would feel about it at first, I felt like travel size would mean tiny, and I couldn't find the travel size on the website, I didn't know what was going on with it. Then it arrived.

Sure, it's not as big as my Fraulein 38 brushes or my e.l.f brushes, but it's roughly the same size as my Benefit fluff shadow brush, and I love that brush. It certainly isn't a miniature, and for me the size is just fine.

The brush is thick and soft, different to most blenders I have that are smaller and round, the Sigma E25 is for a wider and more smooth blend than the e.l.f. blending brushes, when it has to be a perfect gradient. Some people liken it to the MAC 217 brush, sadly I wouldn't know because I can't afford MAC brushes!
I am of the mind that the more brushes you have in your collection the better, so I wouldn't say that it should replace any existing brushes you have, but I would say that it will make a great addition to your collection.

I dislike not being able to shop at the Sigma store in my own currency, which means having to worry about conversion rates and charges. It took me well over a week to receive my brush because it has to come to the UK from America, (although I'm sure I've bout things on ebay from China that have arrived quicker,) but it was worth the wait, these are good brushes. The standard size E25 is $9.00 with $3.46 for the economy rate shipping, express shipping is a little ridiculous at $29.95 (over three times the price of the brush) and if you can handle the wait, it works out to around £7.55. If you go to Superdrug you'd be charged over £8 for a QVS brush, and the quality of those is awful. Fair enough, you wouldn't have to wait a week before you could take it home, but it wouldn't last you long and it wouldn't do as good a job.

So, all that out of the way, Sigma are allowing me to give away one of these E25 travel blending brushes to one of you lovely readers!

All you need to do is be subscribed and leave a comment saying "enter me!" and next SUNDAY (1st May) I will pick a winner! I'll get the postal address of the winner and pass it on to Sigma Beauty and they will post the prize out themselves. If you are in my neck of the woods, I am afraid that means it might take some time to get to you, but that's the way this works.

This giveaway is made possible because I am a Sigma Affiliate. This means that if you click the Sigma ad in the sidebar--> and buy something, I will make commission on that sale. This does NOT mean that I will say nothing but nice things about the company or their products in order to get you to buy them. If you want to buy stuff from Sigma and I get money that is great, but I am not a sales person and I'm not trying to make you buy anything.

Thanks for reading!
Today I am testing out ideas for leopard print eyes. I definitely prefer one eye over the other. I did a different look on each eye, so I'm going to show you both.

First I primed my eyes with e.l.f. eyelid primer, blending it in with my finger. I left it a little while so it could dry.

Next I covered both my eyes in Scarlett & Crimson white eyeshadow from their In The Shadows palette.

I took the pink from the same palette and swept it over my brow bone right up into the brows and in the inner and outer corners of my eyelid. Then I blended in some purple from the Sleek i-Divine palette into the darker areas, and the outer edge of the brow bone. I blended it all with my Sigma E25.

I covered the other eye in the light shimmery blue from S&C, and added depth to areas with the deeper shimmery blue from the i-Divine palette. I blended in a little purple at the crease.

I lined both my eyes with liquid liner to create a cat eye.

On the pink eye, I went for the traditional leopard print pattern. This was extremely difficult with the liquid liner. Your hand is further away from the brush end, and that gives you less control. The brush dries out quickly and you keep having to re-dip the brush into the liner. I think a pen would do a better job.

On the blue eye, I got fed up and ended up going for splodges. The marks were more random and I did find it resembling another type of cat print, though I'm not sure which. My cat eye liner hadn't dried properly and transfered to the rest of the eyelid.

I fixed (or attempted to fix) this by adding matte black to the crease and blending it in.

I used the same black to go over my eyeliner and add black underneath the eyes.

I also put some silver liner on my waterline.

I added mascara, filled in my brows, and was done.

So there you go!
Obviously, these eyes don't match and are not meant to be worn at the same time. It will be an either/or decision, and doing one on each eye as practise saves a lot of time!
